Abstract

A study examined animal experiments and bioethics in high schools in Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. Participants were 206 biology and 96 social studies teachers in New Zealand, 251 biology and 114 social studies teachers in Australia, and 560 biology and 383 social studies teachers in Japan. The results revealed that there were differences in the way bioethical concerns were expressed among teachers in the three countries, with more teachers expressing concerns about animal rights or experiments in New Zealand than in Australia or Japan.
