Dear all, 

I think those disciplines we have in the database can`t sufficiently and correctly cover all the range of exicting alts. In my opinion, at least two new disciplines have to be added to the database: veterinary medicine and medicine. These two is beacause we are getting more and more new items in given fields and they simply can`t be just allocated between "anatomy" and "physiology" disciplines as far as they don`t belong to both of them anyway.

Med and vet med are at the level of faculty, whereas all other categories are at the level of discipline. I don't think it would be good to add them to the list of disciplines as the list woudl be very large and the two levels woudl be mixed.

If we do add these somehow then we also need Biology. And many individual alts then need to be allocated to 2 disciplines. Vadim, what is the status of the need to add alts to more than one discipline? And can we add Med, vet med and biol as another filter, separate from the disciplines?

Hi Nick,

I still insist on adding at least those two disciplines. It should be done for the reasons of easier search for the teachers and students. We`ve been facing this problem for a long time. There are some items that strictly belong to vet. medicine or medicine and it`s a bit odd to search them somewhere else wasting time. 

I don`t think we need to add "biology" as a discipline as a far as this term has wide meaning and includes anatomy, physiology, and other disciplines already existing in our database.

But Dima, this is what I am saying: Med, vet med and biol are usually Faculty level categories.The rest are disciplines. All 3 of these have their own disciplines eg anatomy etc. So i agree that we need med and vet med, but woudl add that we need all 3 (or 4, if we add Other). But more importantly, I don't think they work togetehr: they woudl make the list too long and woudl confuse 2 different types of category. So I suggest to Vadim that we have a new separate filterign system for these 3 or 4, and keep the existing categories for disciplines. Then alts can be categorised by 'Faculty' and discipline.
